We focus on specific areas or clusters in the Wireless Communications and Wireless Internet space. We have invested, and continue to identify further investment opportunities, in the following clusters:

• Wireless Entertainment
• Wireless Commerce
• Wireless Internet infrastructure
• Future Wireless Technologies

Additionally, we invest in other key enabling technologies central to the development of wireless and fixed Internet services.

Wireless users and applications pose totally new requirements for instance for information security, which is already a key element in most services.

Internet Protocol (IP) plays a key role in data communications. Stratos Ventures believes that in the future, communications and information services will be increasingly built on top of Internet Protocol.

Voice over IP (VoIP) is an example of this transformation. IP network independence (e.g. 2G, 3G, W-LAN, ATM, xDSL, Gigabit Ethernet) means that users are able to roam services wherever they are (similar to current GSM networks) regardless of the available network. The future IP v.6 standard will provide better means for achieving mobility and Quality of Services in IP networks.

As data and telecommunications network standards evolve, the demand for new types of network elements increases. Quantum-leap progress is being made especially in fiber optics and data communications technologies driven by technological developments and increasingly demanding customers.

The markets that Stratos Ventures invests in are changing rapidly as new technologies emerge and related applications enable the creation of new segments. Therefore, we have an open mind towards unique and interesting opportunities outside our main focus area.
